Centre Technologies is pleased to announce the winner of the 2020 Kathy Pace Technology Scholarship, Chikezie Ezuma-Ngwu. Chikezie will be attending The University of Texas at Austin fall 2020 to earn his Bachelor's degree in computer science. With his passion for robotics and programming and a demonstrated interest in making the world a better place through technology, we are proud to offer Mr. Ezuma-Ngwu this scholarship. We sat down with him for a virtual meeting to learn more about his interests and future plans.

The Kathy Pace Technology Scholarship honors the late Kathy Pace, who strongly believed in supporting the community. As the role of technology continues to evolve, it is important that we encourage and provide young adults academic opportunities to achieve their educational endeavors, with the hope that they will leverage their experience to improve the world we live in.

Technology can be used to help alleviate tasks that are taxing on us, giving us more time to spend with family and friends. It can also connect us with people and information from all over the world.

Scholarship Recipient

What sparked your interest in technology?

A: When I was around five years old, I saw the Iron Man movie and when I saw Tony Stark build his Iron Man suit and programming it, it really clicked with me that I would like to do the same. When I went to middle school, I heard about this event called “hour of code” and so I decided to test it out and once I did it I just loved it.

What specific aspects of Technology are you most drawn to?

A:  Artificial Intelligence. Next semester I'm joining the Freshman Research Initiative at UT and a research topic that interests me is robotics, where I could help develop AI for the robots on campus.

Which courses In the past have peaked your interest?

A: Probably computer science. I found it to seem like a puzzle and I was a puzzle-master trying to solve it and it was so much fun for me. In college, I am excited to take Data Structures because generally after that class we can start to get internships and I can further expand my skillset.

What are your future career goals?

A: I would like to go into AI Engineering and work in a company such as Amazon, Tesla, or Microsoft. .

What does it mean to you that Centre Technologies has this annual scholarship opportunity?

A: I’m very grateful to Centre technologies, not many small or mall companies give such a big scholarship. I like to see Centre as leading by example for other companies to follow so that they can promote technology advancement of students who want to pursue their degrees in STEM and engineering.

The Centre team wishes you all the best in your future endeavors, Chikezie —the future looks very bright for you!
